Basement Finish Rough-In for a Bedroom, Bath and Laundry in Vancouver, WA
We wired the rough-in for a basement being finished into a bedroom, bathroom and laundry room in a Vancouver home. That meant a dedicated bathroom circuit, cans, two exhaust fans, a 3-way at the stairs, a smoke and CO alarm, and moving two existing circuits.

Scope of Work
- Ran a dedicated 20-amp circuit for the basement bathroom
- Pulled switch legs for the bath and laundry fans, vanity, shower can and bedroom cans
- Wired a 3-way for the stair lights and a combo smoke and CO alarm
- Added outlets per code and moved an existing 30-amp and 20-amp circuit
This Vancouver basement is being finished into a bedroom, bathroom and laundry room. The job came through Amplified Renovations, a remodeling contractor we work with. Ryan and the crew wired the rough-in ahead of the rough inspection.
Bathroom and laundry
The bathroom got its own dedicated 20-amp circuit, which is what code calls for on bathroom outlets. We pulled switch legs for the vanity light, the shower can and the bathroom fan. The laundry room got a second fan and two cans of its own.
Bedroom and stairs
We tapped a 15-amp circuit for the bedroom outlets and lights, and added outlets at the spacing code calls for. The light at the bottom of the stairs ties in with the 5 bedroom cans, and the stairs got a 3-way so you can switch them from top or bottom. We also set the box for a combination smoke and CO alarm.
Moving what was there
Two circuits already ran through the space, a 30-amp and a 20-amp. We moved both so they’d work with the new walls.
Next comes drywall, then we come back to trim it out. Our basement finishing electrical page covers the whole process.
