Barn Power, a Garden Outlet and a Popping Track Light in Camas, WA
A service call with four items on a Camas property. We checked the barn power, replaced the garden outlet we'd put in earlier with a new GFCI and in-use cover, secured the light over the kitchen sink, and found a burned connection behind a track light that kept popping bulbs.

Scope of Work
- Checked the barn subpanel and circuits after part of the barn lost power
- Replaced the garden outlet with a new GFCI and in-use cover
- Secured the light over the kitchen sink
- Took down the track light and found the burned connection behind it
This Camas property had a short list for one service call. Part of the barn had lost power, the garden outlet had stopped working, the light over the kitchen sink was loose, and a track light kept burning out bulbs with a popping sound.
The barn and the garden outlet
Some of the barn power had come back before we got there. We checked the barn subpanel and the circuits.
The garden outlet was one we’d put in on an earlier visit. We opened it up, replaced it with a new GFCI outlet, and put an in-use cover on it so it stays dry with something plugged in. Our post on why an outdoor outlet stops working covers the usual causes.
The track light that kept popping bulbs
Bulbs that pop when they burn out, over and over, usually mean a bad connection, not bad bulbs. When we took the track light down, the connection at the ceiling box was burned and discolored. Heat from a connection like that can cook the bulbs and the fixture.
We left the track down. When it goes back up, it needs a new, larger remodel box in the ceiling so the connections have room and can be made up right.
The kitchen sink light
The light over the sink was loose on the ceiling. We secured it.

What customers say about our troubleshooting work
I have to shout out Ryan for going out of his way to come save us tonight. After having an HVAC tech out two days in a row, I was really hoping to have AC restored in my home. What we thought was an HVAC issue turned out to be a breaker issue and we thought we were going to be sweating through the night once again. Newman Electric was the first place I called and I’m super glad I did. Ryan was probably on his way home for the day but diverted over to our house to help us out. He charged a fair rate for emergency service and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Best part is.. I might actually sleep through the night tonight now that my house is finally cooling down. We’ll be hiring Newman Electric again in the future, as it sounds like we’re due for a panel swap and their pricing is good. As a dispatcher for a local plumbing company, I know good service when I see it. Thanks again Ryan for helping us out tonight! We really owe you one. 10/10 will recommend to friends and family.
Came home at 3pm on a Thursday to discover I had some confounding sort of electrical issue. I couldn’t figure it out and called Newman at 3:35. By 4:30 they were leaving having diagnosed the issue and replaced two breakers and GFCI outlets. There was an emergency extra fee for immediate response but they were very up front about it and did awesome work. A+ job
