Exposed Cabinet Wiring Cleaned Up in a Ridgefield, WA Kitchen
Midway through a Ridgefield kitchen remodel, a cable was running out of the wall to an under-cabinet outlet and another was loose in a drawer base. We took out the exposed run and put the loose cable in a covered steel box.

Scope of Work
- Took out the cable that ran exposed from the wall to the under-cabinet outlet
- Put the loose cable in the drawer base into a covered steel box
This Ridgefield kitchen was in the middle of a remodel. The cabinets and counters were in and the wall behind them was being patched for a backsplash. Two things needed an electrician before that wall got covered up.
What we found
- A cable running in the open out of a hole in the wall and over to an outlet mounted under an upper cabinet
- A loose cable in a drawer base, coming up through the cabinet floor with tape on the end
Neither one is safe to leave. Regular house cable isn’t made to run out in the open where it can get hit or pinched, and a cable end with tape on it is not a finished connection.
What we did
We took out the exposed run between the wall and the under-cabinet outlet. In the drawer base, the loose cable now ends in a covered steel junction box set at the back of the cabinet.
We were in and out in about 35 minutes. The hole in the wall gets patched with the rest of the wall before the backsplash goes on.
Before the backsplash goes on
A remodel is the cheapest time to fix wiring like this. Once tile is up, getting to a cable behind it means cutting into finished work. If you’ve got cable showing anywhere in a kitchen that’s mid-remodel, get it looked at before the walls are finished. Our kitchen remodel wiring page covers what a kitchen needs.
