There is a particular kind of panel that has not failed yet and is going to. What “full” actually costs you

A panel with no open spaces is not just an inconvenience for the next project. It changes how the house gets wired from then on:

• Every addition becomes a tandem breaker or a subpanel, whether or not that is the right answer

Re-landing circuits is the actual work

Pulling the old panel takes an hour. Bringing thirty-odd circuits into the new one is the rest of the day, and it is where the difference shows up:

1. Identify before you cut. Every circuit gets traced and tagged while the old panel is still readable.
2. Dress the conductors. The new panel photo shows conductors run down the sides and turned into the breakers, rather than crossed over the bus. It is not decoration. It is what makes the panel serviceable and keeps heat off the terminations.
3. Write the directory last. After everything is landed and verified, not from the old card.

An energy monitoring display went in below the panel, which is a small addition that changes how a homeowner relates to the thing. Instead of a metal box you open twice a decade, you get a live read on what the house is actually drawing.

It is also genuinely useful before a big load lands. If an EV charger or a heat pump is coming in the next year or two, a few months of real usage data is a better basis for sizing the next step than a rule of thumb.
