EVIQO Charger Across the Garage From the Panel in Vancouver, WA
The panel was on one side of this Vancouver garage and the car parks on the other. Newman Electric ran the circuit in EMT across the ceiling, past the garage door opener, and hardwired an EVIQO Level 2 charger on the far wall with a short flexible whip.

Scope of Work
- Added a dedicated 240-volt circuit at the existing panel
- Ran EMT conduit across the garage ceiling, clear of the door opener and track
- Brought the conduit down the far wall to the charger location
- Hardwired the EVIQO charger with a short flexible metal whip
- Mounted the cable holster beside the unit
The panel in this Vancouver garage sat on the narrow side next to a cabinet, and the car parks on the opposite wall. The homeowner sent photos with the route drawn in red across the ceiling. Newman Electric ran it that way in EMT conduit and hardwired an EVIQO Level 2 charger right where the cable reaches the charge port.
Why not just put the charger by the panel
The cheapest charger install puts the unit right beside the panel, and when the parking layout allows it, that’s what we recommend. Here it didn’t. A charger by the panel would have meant a cord stretched across the garage floor or the car parked backwards every night.
Moving the charger to where the car actually sits costs a longer run, but it’s a one-time cost, and our guide to choosing a home charger and where it goes walks through that tradeoff.
Why EMT across the ceiling
Exposed cable stapled across a garage ceiling is legal in some spots and a bad idea in most. EMT is:
- Physically protected, which matters near a garage door track and opener
- Clean to look at, with straight runs and strapped supports
- Easy to rewire if the next car needs a bigger circuit
At the charger end, the EMT drops down the wall and transitions to a short flexible metal whip into the bottom of the unit, which gives a little slack for mounting and service.
The hardwired install
The EVIQO is hardwired on a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to its rating, rather than plugged into a NEMA 14-50. Hardwiring avoids the heat problems that cheap receptacles develop under hours of continuous charging. The cable hangs on its holster beside the unit, clear of the floor.
