Tesla Charger on a 60-Amp Circuit From a Full Siemens Panel in Camas, WA
We hardwired a Tesla Wall Connector about 7 feet from the panel in a Camas garage. The Siemens panel was full, so we swapped in a tandem breaker to make room for the new 60-amp circuit.

Scope of Work
- Swapped in a 30/30 tandem breaker to free up space in the Siemens panel
- Added a 60-amp, two-pole breaker for the charger
- Hardwired the Tesla Wall Connector about 7 feet from the panel
This Camas homeowner wanted a hardwired Tesla charger in the garage, close to the panel. The charger spot was easy. The panel was the problem: the Siemens panel was full. We swapped in a tandem breaker to make room, added a 60-amp circuit, and hardwired the Tesla Wall Connector about 7 feet away.
Making room in a full panel
A 60-amp charger circuit needs a two-pole breaker, which takes two spaces. This panel had none open. A 30/30 tandem two-pole breaker puts two 240-volt circuits in the space of one, which freed up the room for the new 60-amp breaker. That only works when the panel is listed for tandems in those spaces, and this Siemens was.
If a panel can’t take tandems, the choices are a subpanel or a bigger panel. Both cost a lot more than a breaker swap.
A short run
With the charger about 7 feet from the panel, the run is short and simple. We mounted the bracket, brought the circuit to it and hardwired the Wall Connector. The whole job took about an hour.
A 60-amp circuit is what a Tesla Wall Connector needs to charge at its full 48 amps. Our EV charger installation in Camas and Clark County page covers the options if your panel is full too.
