Rewiring

Rewiring & Knob and Tube Replacement in Cowlitz County, WA

Cowlitz County has some of the oldest housing we work in. Longview was built as a planned city in the 1920s, and downtown Kelso and West Kelso go back even further. Knob and tube, cloth-insulated wiring and two-prong outlets are common, and some insurers won't write a policy until they're gone. We rewire in stages when that suits the budget. Local detail: knob and tube replacement in Longview.

How a whole house rewire works
"Ryan and the team were very helpful. They were punctual and got after the work quickly. I purchased an older home that needed to be updated and rewired. Ryan and Garrett worked out a schedule and were able to get all the work done in a few days time. They were open and answered all questions throughout the process. They also worked with my schedule."

Panel Upgrades

Electrical Panel Upgrade in Cowlitz County, WA

Fuse panels and 60-amp services in the older Longview and Kelso homes, 100-amp ranches from the 1960s and 70s, and tired overhead masts and meter bases on both. Cowlitz County permits go through Washington L&I's office in Kelso, and service work is coordinated with Cowlitz PUD. We handle both and add the outdoor emergency disconnect the 2023 NEC requires on a new service.

EV Chargers

EV Charger Installation in Cowlitz County, WA

In the older parts of Longview and Kelso, a Level 2 charger usually starts with a load calculation and sometimes a panel upgrade. Out toward Kalama and Woodland, chargers tend to go outside or in a detached garage. One Kalama install put a Tesla Wall Connector on a pergola post at a solar-equipped home. The electrician doing the installation was courteous and efficiently completed his work within his estimated time frame. He left the job site clean and the charger ready to go."

Wells, Septic & Pumps

Well, Septic & Pump Wiring in Cowlitz County, WA

Rural Cowlitz County runs on wells, septic systems and sump pumps, and each belongs on its own circuit with wiring that holds up underground and in wet risers. We wire new septic systems, pump and float controls, and dedicated pump circuits, and troubleshoot pumps that stop running.

"Oh my gosh! I called Newman Electric about power to our bathroom outlets not working. They were in our neighborhood, North Image, and said we will be there in 15 MINUTES!! They diagnosed the problem (an outside CGFI outlet was tripped when our siding was washed) and put everything back together. We had forgotten about the outside CGFI and didn't know it was part of the bathroom wiring. They didn't charge us anything! We are so excited to share that Ryan and Anthony are the BEST! Thanks Newman Electric! You guys rock!"

Generators

Generator Installation in Cowlitz County, WA

Winter storms take out power across Cowlitz County, and properties along the Lewis River and in the hills around Kalama and Woodland wait the longest. A portable generator with an inlet and a panel interlock keeps the essentials running. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch does it on its own and carries a well pump. We permit and wire either through L&I.

Generator sizing, transfer switches and interlocks
"We decided to bite the bullet and get a whole-home generator. Ryan came out as scheduled and we went for it. James did the installation, and was terrific: he worked fast, clean, and efficiently."

What Our Customers Say

4.9 rating · 115 Google reviews

"James did everything I expected and quickly with a minimum of power interruptions, which is important because my wife is on continuous supplemental oxygen and we had to use a tank for less than an hour while James completed the wiring. He hauled my 7.5K generator down to the garage and fired it up to test that all worked as needed. Thanks Newman"

Permits & Code

Electrical Permits in Cowlitz County

One Permit Office for All of Cowlitz County

Unlike Clark County (which has two systems), all of Cowlitz County goes through one office. Washington State L&I handles every Cowlitz County electrical permit from their Kelso office at 711 Vine Street.

Newman Electric files all permits and schedules all inspections for every Cowlitz County job. Longview, Kelso, Woodland, Kalama, Castle Rock, unincorporated areas. You don't need to call L&I or visit the office. We handle the entire process.

2023 NEC in Effect

Washington adopted the 2023 National Electrical Code in April 2024. Panel upgrades require outdoor emergency disconnects (NEC 230.85). Modified circuits in living spaces need AFCI protection. Every Newman Electric project meets current code.
