Scope of Work

  • Electrical for an HVAC contractor's A/C condenser changeout
  • Landed the condenser circuit in the home's 200-amp Siemens panel
  • Set a new weatherproof disconnect and a clean conduit run to the unit
  • Coordinated for the same afternoon the HVAC crew set the equipment

When an HVAC crew sets a new air conditioner in the morning, somebody has to have the electrical ready that afternoon or the homeowner spends the night without cooling. Newman Electric is the somebody. We handled the wiring side of an A/C changeout for Advantage Heating & Cooling, an HVAC company we partner with, in Vancouver, WA, timed to the same day their installers set the unit.

Replacing the disconnect, not just reusing it

The old setup had an aging disconnect and a whip that had seen better summers. On a changeout, that is the moment to replace it, not nurse it along:

  • A new weatherproof disconnect mounted on the wall within sight of the condenser, per NEC 440.14
  • A sealtight whip from the disconnect to the unit that flexes with vibration and sheds weather
  • PVC conduit run neatly along the foundation so the line is protected and the install looks finished

A disconnect is the shutoff a service tech grabs before touching the equipment. Leaving an old corroded one in place to save twenty minutes is exactly the kind of shortcut that turns into a callback. New unit, new disconnect.

Landing the circuit in a 200-amp panel

Inside, the home had a 200-amp Siemens panel with capacity to spare, so the condenser circuit landed clean:

  1. Breaker sized to the new unit’s nameplate, not the old one’s
  2. Conductors matched to that breaker
  3. Directory updated so the next person knows what feeds what

A 200-amp service is the comfortable case for an A/C changeout, because there is room to do it right without juggling loads. We confirmed the capacity, landed the A/C condenser circuit and disconnect, and pulled the Clark County permit so the install was inspected and documented.

Why HVAC companies keep us on speed dial

The hard part of an HVAC company’s day is not the refrigerant, it is finding an electrician who shows up on the right afternoon, does the circuit and disconnect to code, and handles the permit so nothing bounces at inspection. That reliability is the whole relationship. We treat the HVAC crew’s schedule as the deadline, because for their customer, it is.

Newman Electric was great to work with! They were on time for both the bid process and the actual work. The work was done well and on my timeline. I appreciated the reasonable pricing and communication. I would absolutely use them again!
